The Halifax Humanities Society is seeking a Recruitment and Engagement Officer to support recruitment and community engagement for Halifax Humanities’ core educational program. The position will begin June 1, 2026 and be completed October 1, 2026.
This is a part-time position of 15 hours a week with a remuneration of $24 per hour.
The primary role of the Recruitment and Engagement Officer is to promote and raise awareness of Halifax Humanities 101 (HH101), an eight-month Great Books course in philosophy, literature, and art of the western tradition and beyond. HH101 is a no-cost, low-barrier program designed for individuals living on low incomes or facing other barriers to traditional university education.
Specific duties include:
- Planning and executing recruitment and engagement events for HH101
- Communicating with applicants online and in-person to support their recruitment process
- Developing social media, print media, and web content for HH101
- Providing administrative support to the Director
- Cultivating media and PR relationships
- Engaging with community and nonprofit organizations to promote awareness of HH101
The ideal candidate will be responsible, self-directed, skilled at communication, and have excellent interpersonal skills. Experience in community outreach, public relations, graphic design, and photography are assets.
The Recruitment and Engagement Officer is responsible to the Executive Director of Halifax Humanities.
