The Halifax Humanities Society is pleased to share that we will be opening up our classroom and inviting the public to join us for a very special lecture and Q&A with Dr. Harvey Amani Whitfield as a collaboration with African Heritage Month at Halifax Public Libraries. Join us on Tuesday, February 25 at 1 PM in the Terry Symonds Auditorium of the North Memorial Library (2285 Gottingen St) to hear Dr. Whitfield share his research on the life of Statia Hopefield.

About Dr. Harvey Amani Whitfield
Dr. Harvey Amani Whitfield is the Centennial Carnegie Chair in the History of Slavery in Canada at the University of King’s College and a professor of history at Dalhousie University. After completing an MA at Dalhousie focused on West African history, he completed a PhD in History, which highlighted the experience of the War of 1812 Black Refugees. His latest book, Biographical Dictionary of Enslaved Black People in the Maritimes, was the winner of the Canadian Historical Association’s Clio Prize for the Atlantic Region.
